BIRTH: Cct - I have a birth certificate of a Richard Walker born 13 April 1839 at 3 Orlock Path, Crasterton, in the sub-district of Kirby Lonsdale in the registration district of Kirby Union in the county of Westmorland, son of John Walker, husbandman, and Elizabeth Askews. Entry number 342 on 30th April 1839. This family is on the IGI. I don't know if this is the right Richard Walker IGI: Batch Number C044101 0072. Mother named as 'Betty' for christening details. OR Batch Number 0452084 Serial Sheet = Film for the same B and E but with S = Pre-1970. For the latter there was also a @ symbol just after his name, meaning something to do with relatives. Look Up. MARRIAGE: Registration district of Cockermouth at St. Mary's Church in the chapelry of Maryport in the county of Cumberland. No. 13 on 1st April 1889. Richard Walker, Widower, age 50, miner, of Maryport, son of John Walker (deceased) who was a farmer [husbandman]; to Jane Lamb, spinster, age 34, of Maryport, daughter of John Lamb (deceased) who was a miner. In the presence of William Thompson and Sarah Annie Newman Blacker. Note that he was a widower so had been married before. It is said that this wife, Jane, left him because he had a drinking problem. I have two records of possible birth certificates at St. Catherine's House - W. BIRTH: In Holy Bible - British & Foreign - Black:- William Walker born FEB 13th (or 14th) 1890. Address of William Walker 1902 Mar 16th = 64 Main Street, Ellenbourgh, Maryport. (Stolen) DEATH: Letter dated 2nd July 1916 addressed to Mrs. Walker of 12 Stoddart Street, Shieldfield, Newcastle-on-Tyne from L. E. Jolley (?), sister-in-charge at No. 2. Casualty Clearing Station. Private W Walker was brought in very severely wounded in the head and chest and quite unconscious and though everything possible was done for him he passed peacefully away without re-gaining conciousness at 10:10am on June 27th. He is laid to rest in a part of the cemetery reserved for our brave troops and a little wooden cross bearing the name and date marks each resting place. [There were photos of the cross but they were also stolen] Also enclosed was a lock of his hair which his sister Eveline was buried with, clutching it in her hand. ARMY: Was in D Company, 1st of 5th battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, No. 5/3650. Received the 1914-15 star (stolen). Buried in Bailleul, France (near Ypres, Belgium), communal cemetery extension, plot 2, row E, grave no. 143. (We've been and have taken photos - it's extremely well taken care of.)

After payment of funeral and testamentary expenses and debts she left everything to her son Ronald. PRESS RELEASE: BROWN (Newcastle). 37, Kingsley Terrace, on March 3, in her 95th year, Evelyn Jane, beloved wife of the late William, dear mother of Eveline and Ronald, and a much loved grandmother and great- grandmother. Funeral private. Was a burly lady until late in life when she suffered from several falls and severe senility. Died in hospital which she had been confined to for her own safety for a few years. Used to be an expert seamstress in earlier years. She was also an avid church-goer in earlier years. Always had an endless supply of Black Bullets (boiled sweets/candies) and Peanuts & Raisins.
