Notes:

                   Patrick was Provost of Kirkwall from 1659-1682.  Patrick improved and expanded the business of his father, William.  In 1649 he was elected Baillie, a magisterial position.  In the years that followed, he led an active career as Baillie and Provost.  In 1658 during the Cromwellian Civil War he was sent to Edinburgh to represent the interests of the Town Council. But after the Restoration in 1660, he was entwined in political problems that eventually led to the loss of all his business holdings, stranding him with a huge debt.  This debt, which he couldn't pay, landed him in the Kirkwall prison whiere he died in 1682. (Ancestry.com)
