Count Fulk the Young, father of Count Geoffrey "Plantegenet" and grandfather of HenryFitz Empress, upon the death of his first wife, Ermengarde of Mdaine, the mother of Count Geoffrey, handed over the County of Anjou to Geoffrey, his son and heir, and leaving France forever in 1128, went to the Kindom of Outremer, where he married Melisinde, daughter and heairess of king Baldwin II of the house of Rethel and in 1131 he ascended the throne of Jerusalem. Henceforth the remainder of his live was passed in the desperate and loosing struggle of maintaining the kingdom of the Latin east against the advancing hordes of Islam. He died on 13 Nov. 1144 and was buried in the church of the Holy Sepulcher, having bequeathed his kingdom to the children of his second marriage, whose subsequent history lay far away from the pleasant fields of Anjou and was interwoven with that of the falling kingdom of Outremer.
