Notes:
Lady Godiva was a English legendary heroine. She was the wife of Leof ric, Earl of Mercia and Lord of Coventry. A devoutly religious woman, she was the benefactress of many monasteries, notable among the being the Benedictine monastery at Coventry, which she induced her husband to found in 1043. According to legend her husband agreed to lift an oppressive tax he had imposed on the townspeople on the condition that she ride naked through the market place of Coventry. When she did so, clothed only in her long hair, her husband kept his promise and abolished the tax. In a later version of the legend, Lady Godiva first ordered the townspeople to remain indoors behind closed windows. Her order was violated by only one person, a tailor, afterwards known as Peepling Tom, who was instantly struck blind. LDS ordinances taken from ancestral file.
