"He was ordained a minister in the Baptist Church in 1655. In 1656 he, with others, left the First Baptist Church of Newport and formed the Second Baptist Church, of which he was pastor for some time. About 1666 he removed to Kings Town where he organized a church of which he was pastor until his death in 1710 During this time he built a church which is still standing known as "Old Baptist Church." The name Potter is one who make earthern vessels. He was a tailor by trade, always signing deeds, etc. after he ahd been many years a minister, "Thomas Baker, Tailor."
