Robert I King FRANCE, COUNT OF PARIS
Robert I (865-923), the younger son of Robert THE STRONG, count of Anjou succeeded his elder brother Eudes, or Odo, King of the Western FRanks, as Duke of the Franks in 888; but after his brother's death in 898 Robert chose to recognize the authority of the Carolingian King, Charles III, the Simple. Robert conducted several expeditions against the Normans and in 922 revolted against Charles III, whom he drove into Lorraine, and his himself crowned King of the Franks in the same year at Reims. The following year he was defeated and slain at Soissons during a fierce battle with Charles.
