OBITUARY form the 'LITTLE River Monitor" Vol. 32 #19 dated 11 oct 1917: Fred Dressler as a young man came west and located in the state of Michigan where, on Christmas 25 Dec 1856 he married Miss Lucinda Hatfield. He came to Rice County, Kansas, in an early day and settled on a farm near Crawford, where he lived for a number of years. He professed religion many years ago and united with the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Forest HOME school house. He was a good man, and had many friends who, with his sorrowing relatives, will miss him much. He said, just a few days before he died, that he was ready to leave this world, and his loved ones said good-bye expecting to meet him in the better world. HIs death certificate listed the cause of death as Cystitis (age 85 years) His parents are sometimes listed as John Dressler and Mary Crum but many think his parents were really George Dressler and Sarah Fischer. Frederick was listed as a farmer. BIRTH: 1850 census shows Frederick as 16 DEATH: he was age 85 when he died. Morgan showed Michigan as mother's birth place/ could be she didn't really know and guessed.)

William and his wife lost their son, Fred Dressler, daughter in law, Cora Carpenter Dressler, and two grandchildren to pneumonia during the great flu epidemic in 1919. Fred died after a short illiness of 5 days at 2am on Friday, March 7, 1919. HIS wife, Cora died at 90pm on Monday, March 10, 1919 and her five year old daughter, Maxine, died an hour later. On Friday, March 14, 1919 at 9am their four year old son, Jack, died. The remaining child, Mildred, age 8 was very ill and they did not know if she would survive. Jean Suman has their funeral notices that were printed in the "The Hutchinson News".William Elmer Dressler was apparently a farmer in Michigan in 1885 according to the census and he had moved from Iowa. His obituary said he died after a two week illness. He moved from Indiana to Iowa to Little River in 1879. He lived on a farm near Little River before moving to Hutchinson in 1906. He was employed by the Guymon-Petro Mercantile Co for 26 years. He was married 58 years . Funeral services were held in the Methodist church. His wife was referred to as Kate "Kittie" Smith Dressler.In 1900 he was apparently a farmer according to the census and by 1920 he was listed as a laborer, Wholesale House.
Schuyler always list his birth place as Iowa but his parents always listed as Indiana. He was in farm labor according to 1900 census. He could have died 4 feb 1907. (his first named sometimes spelled like it sounds for example the Forest Grove Cemetery lists an infant son of "Skiler" and Alice Dressler buried in 1906.

John Milton died at age 3 per Jean Suman's mother's records. Conflict with an entry at the LDS sight which said that he died at age 11 of pneumonia. However, Jean says he was not on the Iowaq census in 1870, so she did not think he was alive in 1873. (But was he in Iowa or Indiana in 1870. This is what the record shows ; that is , Indiana as the birth place. I think I'll use age 11 just in case). DEATH: not listed on 1870 census. Must have died before then.

All of the children could speak English and Samuel, Ella, and Jessie could read and write.She died of typhoid fever and rapid complications of diseases set in which caused her death. She was only ill about 10 days before she died. The funeral was held in the family home. This was Jean Suman's grandmother.(My great grandfather..Schuyler Colfax Dressler's sister.)

She had been in ill health for the last three years of her life with a heart ailment. She had been known to many for the "wayside well" on her property where pure soft water had been availablel to anyone for the pumping. Edith May was Millard "Charlie" Rose's 2nd wife. His daughter, Opal was identified as Edith's step daughter in Edith's obituary. Charlie already had 2 children before their marriage. Jean Suman says that there she wasn't aware of a Jessie Dressler as a child in this family. She said Samuel and Luella Dressler had a daughter Jessie Courtney born 22 march 1887. She married an Albert Johns and died during the ful epidemic 31 oct 1918.
