James COLEBANK

James spent almost his entire life in Monongalia County,Virginia (now W.Va.), near Pt. Marion, Penn. It became part of West Virginia in 1863. 1812 MARRIAGE: Family History Records of Warren L. Colebank, Bremerton WA; NOTE: In 1840, they have a boy and three girls living in Cass Dist. In 1830, they have two boys and six girls. In 1840, they are just across the state line in Dunkard Township, Greene County, Penn. Two boys and five girls are at home. In 1860, they are living in Union District of Monongalia County, W.Va. near Stewardstown, W.Va. Their yougest child, Marinda 21, and grandson, Thomas 16, son of Jane, are in the household. The next year Thomas joined the Union forces in the Civil War at age 17. 1867 DEATH: Family History Records of Warren L. Colebank, Bremerton WA; NOTE: 22nd Nov 1867. Mary lived to the age of 67. James lived as a widower for six years and died at age 73. Colebank, Bremerton WA; NOTE: Birth given as 24 Jan 1827, James David was born and lived 30 years on Crooked Run, a creek that empties into the Monongalia River just south of the W.Va., Pennsylvania line in Cass District of Monongalia County, W.Va. 1849 MARRIAGE: Family History Records of Warren L. Colebank, Bremerton WA; NOTE: When James married he was 22 and his wife 29. James & Mary raised Eliza Colebank, the daughter of James' sister Mary Ann. Eliza was six in 1850 when they took her in. They lived on Crooked Run on a farm. In the 1850 Census, they have moved to a farm on Robinson Run near Maidsville, W.Va. In October 1862, James bought a 73 acre farm near Stewartstown, W.Va. for $1499. In May of the next year, Mary died at the age of 43, mother of nine children six of which were living. The next year 1864 James married Caroline Hess then 19. In 1865, the family moved to Metamora, Illinois. In May 1867, James bought a 120 acre farm 3 miles east and 2 miles south of Eureka, Illinois, near Panther Creek. 1849 MARRIAGE: International Genealogical Index; FamilySearch 1994 Edition; Family History Library, Salt Lake City UT; NOTE: Mary Morris. 1875 DEATH: Family History Records of Warren L. Colebank, Bremerton WA; NOTE: Died 22 Jan. James moved his family to a farm near Onarga, Illnois, in 1871. Four years later he died at age 48.
