Cornelia is my paternal grandmother. There is much confusion as to the real spelling of her name, actual birthdate and correct spelling of her father's surname. Her gravestone, which I have a picture of, states, Born-30 June 1884. Died 30 Dec 1928. Her death certificate states her age at death was 43 years 6 months 27 days, Date of Birth- 3 June 1885. Her daughter-in-law, Viola Skiba, wife of Adam, says she was born 8 June 1885. I have not been able to find birth or christening certificates to clear up the matter. I am using the Kolakowska spelling of her surname as per my cousin Ray, son of Adam and Viola Skiba. Ray is familiar with the Polish language and has documents using this spelling. She died from Typhoid Fever that she caught from her son, John, who was nine years old at the time. She died in bed as he slept beside her. Her son John, was deeply affected by this. Her husband had done everything he could to protect her from the disease and mourned her death the rest of his days. He never remarried and raised the remaining eight sons alone. She died on the John Ross farm where the family worked as farm hands. She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Leamington, Ontario, Canada.
This was their only girl and we have no further information at this time. We were told her name by Viola Skiba. Ray Skiba notes her as born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where his father Adam was born. Need to request a birth certificate from there if possible.
I spoke to Ed's daughter, Janet, 15 Aug 1993. She is helping me to gather the information I'm missing on her family. Uncle Ed died from cancer. He worked for Motorola in Arizona until his retirement. He and Alma were very active with round dancing; he was a caller. Ed was born on Hermatage Street in Chicago.....Adam Skiba.
I need to get the burial date and cemetery for Uncle Dick. He had rhematoid arthritis and died from complications resulting from this disease.
He married Cornelia "Nellie" Kolakowska at Galicia, Austria . Cornelia "Nellie" Kolakowska was born at Podhajczki, Trembowla, Galicia, Austria 8 Jun 1885 .
