"The title of Earl of Derby, with Knowsley, Halewood, Bury, and other manors,went to the male heir of the second earl, through Sir James Stanley of Cross Hall.  He had a numerous family, including Henry Stanley of Aughton, who married Margaret, daughter and heiress of Sir Peter Stanley of Bickerstaffe, and was succeeded in 1598 by his son, Edward, created a baronet by Charles I in 1627."
