NOTES:
    Reportedly the youngest of seven children, as stated in manuscript penned by granddaughter, Agnes (Henderson) Westbrook in 1937; however, eight children are named in her manuscript as well as eight children being named in another family manuscript penned by their great grandson, John E. Singleton in 1964. Ten children were born to General and Martha Henderson per Census count.

    The two manuscripts given the name of the oldest son - either Dick or
    Azor. (A search of the census records solves this difference as the
    oldest child is Acy on the 1860 census and Richard on the 1870 census.
    Therefore, his name might well be Richard Azor). Neither manuscript
    furnishes the names of the parents of General Washington Henderson, and
    it should be noted that John Singleton refers to this patriarch as
    George Washington rather than General. He was also known as "Wash"
    Henderson in his home near Toccapola, Ponotoc Co. MS, but is listed as
    General or Washington on most census reports.

    MILITARY: General W. Henderson fought for the South in the Civil War.
    Records show Gen. W. Henderson, Pvt, Co F. 4 Miss Inf. (There is
    another G.W. Henderson, Co D, 5 Miss Cav. Prince's Co, 6 Battalion,
    Miss F. & S. Calvary. Records of Joanne K. Craig). His records have not
    been ordered from the Archives and it is not known whether or not he
    was a Pensioner.

    W. Henderson 25, b AL; wife, Martha 20, b AL; children Acy (Azor) 3,
    b MS and John 2, b MS.

    CENSUS: 1870 Calhoun Co. MS, P.O. Pittsboro, 295, p. 358: Washington
    Henderson, age 35 and wife, Martha, 30. Children: Richard 14; John 12;
    General 10; Carrie C. 8; Thomas 4; and Wash l.

    CENSUS: 1880 Lafayette Co. MS, p ___: General W. Henderson, age 45 and
    wife, Martha, age 40 with children: John 21; General W. 16; Mary C. 13;
    James H. 10; Cassise F. 9; Martha Jane 7: William H. 5, (Dick (Azor))
    must be married, and sons, Thomas or Wash are not listed on this
    Census.

    Born Note: Listed on 1850 Chickasaw Co MS Census in household of
    Temperance Henderson, widow, age 48, as son, age 15 years of age
