NOTES:
    1. James A. Bartlett, at age 14 he went to Hardin County, KY and lived with his Uncle for 2 years. The first year after his marriage to Mary Ann Simmons he rented a farm in Hardin County. The following spring they moved to Daviess County, remained there for 5 or 6 years. He then moved his family to Shelby County and traded in Stock for only one year, he bought a farm in Ohio County and stayed there for 6 to 8 years, he traded that farm in Ohio County for a farm in Daviess County.  In 1879 he sold his farm in Daviess County for the one about one half mile west of Whitesville, KY.
    2. James A. Bartlett was a member of Christian Church in Whitesville, he was raised as a boy as a Baptist, his wife was raised as a Catholic,  in 1857 they both joined the Christian Church.  In 1872, he was on the Church Building Committee, they built a new church.  
    3. He owns 145 acres of fine land under good cultivation, he was a Democrat, a White farmer and U.S. Citizen on the 1870 census.
    4. 1860 Census - James A. Bartlett #237 - Age 28 - Male - Farmer; Wife Mary Ann (Simmons) - Age 22;daughter Sarah A. Bartlett - Age 4; son William L. Bartlett - Age 2; Sarah A. Bartlett (given this name because her older sister died).
    5. 1870 Census James A. Bartlett - Age 38 - white - farmer - U.S. Citizen; (wife) Mary Ann (Simmons) Bartlett - age 31 - Keeping house - 6 living children;(son) William L.
