Horace Cornwell Wilcox, Traveling Salesman for James Frary ( a manugactrurer of Britannia Ware) In 1852 they formed Meriden Britannia Company. He was 1st Secretary of Meriden Britannia Company, in 1866, became the President. The company soon ceased the manufacture of Britannia Ware and began making plated silverware and became the leading concern of its king in the world. The world became its market Factories were built to supply the demand - (large ones). Factories in Meriden, Connecticut and Hamilton, Canada - He remained President until his death. He also was part of the following a. Wilcox and White Organ Company -- founder and President b. Meriden silver Plate Company -- director and founder c. manning Bowman and Company -- director and founder d. Aeolian Organ and music Company -- director and founder e. Meriden Street Railroad Company -- director and founder f. Rogers Borthers of Waterbury -- director and founder g. R. Wallace and Sons Company of Wallingford -- director and founder h. William Rogers Manufacturing Company of Hartford -- director and founder i. Meriden Fire Insurance Company -- director and founder j. Home National Bank -- director and founder k. Republican Publishing Company -- director and founder l. Walnut Grove Cemetery Association -- director and founder m. A Trustee of City Saving Bank -- director and founder 2. He organized Mariden Waterbury and Connecticut River Railroad Company (investing a vast sum of his private fortune in it - although at the time, there was little hope of return for it. 3. He was an Alderman in the City of Meriden, CT Fifth Mayor of the City (1875 - 1876) 4. State Senator (1877) 5. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, member of its committee in charge of erection of the present idifice until 1884 served upon several committees in church. 6. He brought properity to City of Meriden, CT also to individual workers. He left an Honored Name.
