Frank Scales - succumbs to a complication of diseases - at Bartlett, Burial at Shullsburg (1892) Coming to Chicago in the early days, he assumed a foremost place in her history. was but once a Public Officer. Skipped - Funeral - when & where "Since last winter Judge Scales has been in poor health. At that time he suffered an attack of the grip, which brought on a compilcation of diseases, including organic heart trouble, catarrh of the stomach, & Bright's disease, resulting in his death yesterday." Frank E. Scales - born in 1848 at Scales Mound, Wisc. He received a thorough education, graduating from the Universities of Georgetown, D.C. & Notre Dame, Ind. He came to Chicago in 1868 & began the practice of law. He was associated with both Judge Goggin & Lawrence P. Bogle. He yielded a powerful influence in local politics, but never accepted ofice until 1890, when he was elected County Judge on teh Democratic ticket. During his 4 years' tenure his court was the scene of many fierce political contests. 5 years after coming to Chicago Mr. Scales married Miss (Carrie) Bartlett of Bartlett, Ill. She and a daughter 40 years old, survive him. The family residence is at 234 South Leavitt Street. Ex-Judge Scales was immensely popular & was a member of a number of clubs, including the Columbus, Iroquise & Cook Count Democracy. A train will leave Chicago on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad for Bartlett at 10:30 o'clock tomorrow for the accommodation of persons from Chicago who will attend the funeral, returning to Chicago at 4:30 o'clock."
