NOTES:    1. Wealthy - Avid reader - Moved to Hartford, Connecticut
               in 1845 - Leather Business became "P Jewells and Sons"
               Retired three years before his death.  His father and
               grandfather were tanners.  He worked in tannery in summer
               & attended and taught school in the winter, having had
               the advantage of study at a country academy.  A man of
               great strenth of will, force of character, and desided
               convictgions.  In his religious opinions, which were al-
               warm and active, he was a strict calvinist.  "He was in
               State Legislature in New Hampshire.
