NOTES FROM BACK:  Came to Simsbury, CT - as a yuth, but in poor health -
little schooling, parents were not wealthy - learned carpenter's trade and
built several houses in Simsbury and Collinsville - when he returned to CT, he
engaged in peddling and other work - when he had sufficient capital, he started
(1851) the first successful mercantile business in Simsbury. Using careful
business management, he paid off his debts as he prospered in business until
they were all liquidated. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, a sincere
christian. He was a devout methodist and served in various minor positions in
the church. He had been able to cancel all his indebtedness of earlier years.
He stood high in the esteem of his fellow citizens. His widow now resides with
her dau - Mrs. A.T. Pattison. A few yrs. after his first marriage - he moved to
IL and Then to OH - engaging in farming - he had chills and fewer and returned
to CT. Then his wife died and he remarried.
