Ordinance Index 1997 - info. added NOTES: 1. Elijah Bristow named his home "Pleasant Hill" they moved in 1819 or 1820 to Chamberland Co, KY. 2. They moved also at at a later time to Macoupon Co, IL. later to McDonough Co, IL. in 1845 Elijah came to California and in 1846 to Lane County, Oregon, where he built a fine home and became the first settler. His family came direct from Illinois with ox team in 1848. He served as private in (apt.) John Kennedy's Co, Tenn. Volunteers in 1812, in the creek war & at the battle of Talledega. First white settler, Lane Co, Oregon.

As a child William moved to Illinois, then followed his father along the Oregon Trail to Lane County, Oregon. In Lane County, he became the first postmaster, the first school teacher, and a member of State Senate fro several years.--He opposed capital Punishment, imprisonment for debt and segregated schools. He was a hard money man. -- He worked for the establishment of public education and of a State University. He was mild, but eloquent. 2. Child: Lisette wrote plays.
