NOTES: Information from the above books. A Unionist Congressman from Member of House Committee to consider the treat of bothe secession and the Anti-slavery movement - He adopted conciliatory attitude, As for slavery, he believed in gradual emancipation. He provided for the emancipation of his own slaves. But he argued that the property rights of others slaveholders should be respected as long as thelaws protecting them were in effect. These laws, however, he argued could be changed by a vote of the people.---- He was a man of property who lived in a stately manor house. He was a United States Congressman and did much in his day to build up the walls and sustain the Methodist Episcopal Church (South). (Book RG975.5/Gen) page 259. (A discrepancy) His family probably descends from John[1] of Virginia - Age 16 years old - found wandering around colony in 1663 indentured for seven years. NOTES#2: Francis Marion Bristow, lived for 26 years on a farm near Nicholasville. He early moved to Todd County, Kentucky. With his father, who had settled in Jessamine County in 1790. In 1830-1831, elected to Kentucky Legislature - in 1846 - he was in Senate & Menber of State Constitutional Convention in 1849. In Congress during the years 1854 & 1859.
