Son Alfred Gilbert, left home to seek work, he was a hotel clerk in New York city for several years, then went to North Carolina to the Gold Mines. He returned to Hillsdale in 1832 and bought his parents farm, settled down got married and went seriously into farming. 3. Discrepancy on spelling of wife's first given name Melicent or Mellicent or Millecent?

Alfred Gilbert Bidwell left home to find work - his first job was a clerk in a Hotel in New York City for several and then he went to North Carolina and Georgia to the Gold Mines, returning after seven years. The moved back to Hillsdale, New York for a few years, then he moved to Greenville, NJ. He bought his parents farm in Hillsdale, NY also had a small wagon manufacturing business - The Bidwell farm was a beautiful place on New York Route 23, about half way between the village of Hillsdale and Murray's Corner. In 1848 they sold the farm and moved to Bergen Hill, Jersey City, New Jersey - where Alfred went into business at 28 Newark Avenue. 2. Harriet Ann was 19 years old when her parents died and she went to live with her grandparents in Hillsdale, New York. She attended Columbia Boarding School in Chatham, New York from 183501836.
