John Bidwell and his brother Thomas Bidwell were administrators of their father will and mother estate. 2. John Bidwell's occupation was Miller, he built a Saw and Grist Mill in East Hartford on the Hockamun River. These Mills were twice burned down by the Indians and the third time he rebuilt he took a man by the name of Pitkin who owned 1/3 of the mills. He left these Mills to his son John Bidwell (information obtained by his great grandson Zebulon - he remembered his grandfather telling him the above) 3. John Bidwell died at the age of 73 years, his wife Hannah died at the age of 69 years.

John Bidwell cleared up a swamp of poison alders on the south side of his house and set fire to them with the wind from the north. After the fire got started the wind shifted to the south, he ran to his house shut it as close as he could, but the smell of slders posioned him so that he died about 24 hours after and his wife was so affected by the poison that she was a cripple the rest of her life. 2. On 26 August 1750, John became Guardian of Stephen Bidwell (son of Zebulon and Mary Gilman Bidwell) Stephen was 20 years old at the time and very close to his Uncle.
