Truman Cowles [a] Well known agriculturalist - residing on South Street, Hartford, Connnecticut [b] Educated in Schools of Bethlehem [c] Did farm work on homestead until age 21. [d] Spent one year - farming on Long Island. [e] 1866 - Settled in Hartford - becoming a cleark in a Meat Market. [f] Six years later - he began his own meat market at Number 84 Main Street. [g] Retired in 1894 - among the oldest business men in the city and one of the best known. [h] He had purchased 30 acres of land when he first went to Hartford - Where he resided in 1872 - Building present residence. [i] In 1873 he built a block on Alden Street. [j] He also owns and conducts the old Homestead of 200 acres in Bethlehem. [k] The children were all educated in the South School and Public High School of Hartford, and at Wesleyan Academy Wilbraham, Massachusetts. [l] Family attends Congregational Church. [m] Mrs. Cowles was reared in Presbyterian Church - her parents were devout members.
He married Martha Jane Magee 4 Aug 1869 at Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut . Martha Jane Magee was born at Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts Abt 1851 .
