Francis White Cowles - As a young man came to Hartford, Connecticut, He became one of the most influential men of his day. Self made man as a boy worked in Hilliard Woolen Mills - At age 16 he went to Buckland's Corners - worked at a Hotel and with the Stage Coaches. He bought a Tavern and ran it until 1846. He then moved to the farm - He had stocked raising and breeding "Jersey Cattle" He also ran a General Store. He was a Democrat - He represented the town of Manchester in Lehgislature.

Prominent Citizen of Manchester - served in Civil War 1861 to 1864 - After the War he returned to Manchester and opened a Mercantile Business. Sold it and started the First Livery Stable. Bought "Weaver Hotrel" (which became the "Cowles Hotel"). He and his brother Walter W. Cowles ran it together. Has much Real Estate Excellent Orbitrator - "Democrat". 2. Research Request

Walter Wing Cowles - Went to School until Age 20 - At that time he returned home to farm and engaged in things there - In 1869 - He and his brother Clinton went into the Hotel Business - they bought the "Weaver Hotel" turned it into the "Cowles Hotel". In 1881 he went back to farming - 200 acres - Stock raising and breeding "Jersey Cattle and Horses andhad an excellent Trout Preserve. Democrat - Belongs to Fraternity - Manchester Lodge Number 73, A.F.& A.M.
