"in 'James Montgomery's Company' is listed William Duff, Samuel Duff, Robert Duff, James Doran, David Dryden, and Robert Doran. Last will written 4 Dec 1819, proved in Washington Co., VA. court 21 Dec 1819.

                      John moved his family to Monroe Co., TN near Tellico Plains in 1824 where he laid claim to 640  acres of land. He died there in 1827.  He had 7 known children, John Duff/ MCDUFFEE being the third.  They lived on land originally belonging to the Cherokee Indians that was forcibly taken with the Hiwassee Purchase and eventually led to the "Trail of Tears" in 1838-39 when the Cherokee Indians were forced to reservations in Oklahoma.  John died at age 45 intestate, without a will, causing many problems for Sarah.
