OBITUARY: EDNAH LATHROP (ALLYN) ADAMS - Died - At Pittsfield, on Sabbath morning, the 23rd inst., Mrs. Ednah Adams, in the 78th year of her age. Mrs. A was the widow of the late James Adams, of Stephentown, Rensselaer County, New York. After the death of her husband, she came to this town, about three years since, to reside with her children. For more than 2 years she had been a member of the Baptist church in Stephentown. Mrs A. was a conselent (?), exemplary, devoted Christian. She was remarkable for the simplicity and strenghth of her faith in Jesus Christ. In every time of her trial, her sole reliance, for herself and for her friends, was in her Redeemer She died like one falling asleep. " Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. According to Isaiah Adams' diary, 30 April 1836, Ednah's husband James received a letter from Connecticut telling that her sister Susan died April 9, 1836. (Isaiah Adams Diary)"Adams, Ednah Allyn, m. James Adams, Jr., 20 August 1790, his third wife. Her husband's will left her the North square room in the now dwelling house and also the bedroom adjoining the same and the bedroom in the chamber over the lower bedroom also 1/3 part use of the home farm and a privilege to use the water of the well, kitchen fire, part of the cellar for some fruit and milk room. Also to have all the rest of his household furniture at her will and disposal. Also the use of a good cow yearly and every year.""June 15, 1982, a copy of the Bible record of James Adams, Jr., has become available. It stated: 'My first wife was consumed by fire, September 25, 1782, in the 25th year of her age. Sarah Adams, my second wife, died March 9, 1796, in her 32nd year.' Third wife was Ednah Allyn, daughter of Jacob, deceased. A vendue (public sale at auction...Webster's Dictionary) was held at his place, 28 July 1845. His funeral was 14 December 1743.
