DEATH AND BURIAL: Information is recorded in records of Christ Church in Amherstburg, Essex, Ontario, Canada and was received in letter from Bob Garcia, Resource Centre Specialist, Fort Malden National Historic Site dated Jan 24, 1995. Gives age as 73, cause of death is "decline of nature," is listed as being a native of England, and occupation is pensioner. EXCERPTS FORM BIOGRAPHY OF SON GEORGE RECORDED IN 14TH QUORUM SEVENTIES BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD, PG. 16: ". . . When my father was 20 years old he enlisted in the British Army. Fourteen years after when I was born he was sent to England thence to Ireland, and in 1825 he was discharged, when he went to Leek. I was then about 7 years old." EXCERPTS FROM REPORT OF SEARCH OF MILITARY RECORDS OBTAINED BY THE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY RESEARCH DEPARTMENT (21 JUNE 1965): "Quite an extensive search was made, and a copy of William Nixon's service record is enclosed. Please note that he was discharged in 1825 and was residing in Amherstburg, Canada, in 1852, and that no further record could be found for him after that date. . . he remained in Malta until 1810, and then went to Sicily. From there he went to Portugal and and finally landed in Quebec in 1814. From 1816 - 1817 he was stationed in St. Osmers Valiennce, France." ". . . There is a note on the discharge papers which shows that Pte. Wm. Nixon born at Leek, Co. Staffordshire, has a record of good conduct; on discharge he was 40 1/4 years old, 5' 4" tall, with brown hair, grey eyes and fair complexion. . . he was 'residing in Candada' on 1/10/1844. A reference to the records of Pensions Payments - Candada shows that Wm. Nixon, 39th Regt., was paid his pension in CAndada from 3/1846 to 12/1851, and his resdidence was at Amherstburg. He was transferred to "Amherstburg Pay List" in March, 1852, but those Pay Lists are not in the Public Records Office, London. . ."
