Information from personal correspondence with granddaughter, Madge, and tombstone inscription. Buried Durbin Cemetery. Robert enlisted in the Civil War 1863 at Camp Dick, Robertson, KY in Co. C, 9th Tennessee Cavalry. He was discharged 1865 in Knoxville, TN. Later he served eight months in the first Tennessee State Guard, Co. F. He was discharged for disability in 1867. He and Julia were married by his brother, William, who was a Methodist preacher. (History and Families, Wright County, MO, 1993)
