                       Joseph Keller moved with his parents from Bedford Co., TN, in 1855 to Perry
    Co., IL at the resident of his uncle.  His father died in Nov. of 1855 and the
    family remained there until Feb., 1856, when they settled on a farm in Webster
    Co., MO.  After the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted on Mar. 12, 1862 in
    the Fourteenth Missouri Cavalry of the State Militia, and was discharged due to
    a disability in January, 1863.  He participated in several skirmishes, and was
    wounded by a gunshot while on detail duty. In 1880 was elected justice
    of Benton Township, and 6 years later was elected one of the judges of
    the county court, then re-elected in 1888 (History of Webster Co., MO)
