John M. KELLER, SR.

In or about the year 1835 Willis G., his son John P.H. and a brother, Liege, together with a party of other men drove a bunch of livestock to the New Orleans market, and upon arriving found the stock could not be sold at this time so it was decided that all but Willis G. and Liege would return to their homes and they would remain with the stock until they could dispose of them, then they too would return home. This is the last that was ever heard of Willis G. and Liege. Inquiry at the market place later revealed that they disposed of their stock and started on the return trip home. It is supposed that they were killed by robbers as they no doubt had quite a bit of money after disposing of their stock. His widow, Margaret (born NC), moved to Jefferson Co., Il around 1840. Married probably around Lynchburg, Lincoln, TN
John & Mary were married in Bedford Co., TN and lived there, then in Lincoln Co. and then abt. 1841 moved to Jefferson Co., IL. He joined the Army for service in Mexico in 1847. Died 1848 in Jalapa, Mexico (General Hospital) of the "flux." He was attended by Dr. Jacob A. Keller, his brother, who was with him at the time (10 a.m.) of his death. It is believed that Liege was killed by robbers, along with his brother Willis G., while returning home from New Orleans. They had gone there with a herd of stock to sell at the market and was returning after the sale.
