Alice and Dudley were the grandparents of Salmon Portland Chase (U.S. Secretary of Treasury for President Abraham Lincoln) ("Burke's Presidential Families of the United States of America" page d-4
pub. 1975)

Alice and Dudley lived at Sutton, Massachusetts near Mendon, for ten years, then moved to New Hampshire, where they bought a township on the Connecticut River, the first to settle the town of Cornish, New Hampshire. They took their seven children with them, and then had seven more in their new home.

Five of the sons were prominent men, college graduates. The following is quoted by Emma Corbett Sheldon, from Bishop Chase's Reminiscences, first volume, in a letter to Melvin I. Corbett, dated Feb. 26, 1889: "There was an old fort called No. 4, and there he left his wife and little ones. No settlement between this and Canada. Dudly took his men and went several miles from this fort, commencing a clearing for crops, also a house. His wife must have been very plucky to remain there alone for nearly two weeks. Then he sent two of his men to look after her, also with provisions. When they returned, she went with them. They had done nothing about a house. The husband was greatly surprised to see her, and grieved because there was no place of shelter for her. They soon made a place of bark, bark over and bark under, and put their beds in, and were very comfortable until a big house was built.

He speaks of his mother as all that was lovely, on going to Mendon, his Mother's old home, he says, "This is the place I recollect my sainted mother speak of as her childhood home." He has reason to believe she was once the fairest flower that bloomed on Mendon Plains. Then he speaks of her as his angel mother, Alice Corbett. Then he tells of going to England, where he was well received by noblemen in 1823. He obtained enough to return and build a college in Ohio. It is called Kenyon College, after Lord Kenyon."

Bishop Chase was a smart man, as were all the sons of Alice. He was Bishop before leaving Massachusetts for Ohio.
