    2.Josephte was an Indian woman from the Nouite Tribe of the Kwakiutl Nation which lived on northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Her Indian name is unknown and Josephte is her christian name given her by Catholi priests when she was baptized. Her surname, given to her by the Catholic priests was the name of her tribe. This was the normal naming practice as evidenced by the records of St. Paul Catholic Church, Marion County, Oregon.
