E.L. Sloan Dies in S.L. at Age of 79
Native of England, Active in Church, Civic Groups
    Edward L. Sloan, 79, prominent for many years in business, civic and Church activities, a life-long resident of Salt Lake, died yesterday at 5 p.m.  He had been seriously ill for two years. He resided at 272 C Street.
    Of Irish parentage, Mr. Sloan was born in Liverpool, England, while his parents were enroute to Salt Lake. His father, E.L. Sloan, was a co-founder of the Salt Lake Herald, later merged as the Herald-Republican with the Salt Lake Telegram.
FIRM SECRETARY
    Mr. Sloan was the first secretary of the original Independent Telephone Company which later became the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. For many years prior to his retirement he was head of a general insurance agency here.
    Mr. Sloan served on a mission in Ireland from 1888 to 1890. He was an active Church worker, and at the time of his death was a member of the High Priests Quorum of Ensign Stake. He was married to Mary Ellen Tingey in 1890
    Surviving are the widow, four sons, Edward L. Sloan Jr., Eugene W. Sloan, J. Stafford Sloan and Robert C. Sloan, and eight grandchildren, all of Salt Lake.
PLAN SERVICES
    Funeral services will be conducted in the Twentieth Ward, Second Avenue and G Street, on Monay at 12:15 p.m.
    Friends may call tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at 260 East South Temple Street and at the family home on Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
    Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
