"This 'Daniel Wilcox of Puncatest' whose career suggests the title for this compilation." The Americaan Genealogist p 25 Vol 19 " of Portsmouth, RI., Dartmouth, Mass., Tiverton and Little Compton, R.I. Born about 1634 or before, died 2 July 1702. He had an active and, at times, a stormy career. Without education,- he signed with a mark, --by his ability he acquired quite a large landed estate in eastern Rhode Island and south-western Massachusetts." He lead the fight against Indians, he lead the fight against Massachusetts when they wanted to make R.I. part of Mass. up to the point where he was wanted by the Lieut.-Governoor of Massachusetts for high misdemeanor and had to hide out in R.I. for the safety of his life. He had two wives. The name of the mother of Daniel and Samuel is not known. Second he married Elizabeth Cooke of Plymouth Mass. Temple sealing to parents done by the Dale and Jayvale Miles Family in September 2, 1994, At the Provo Temple.

"Elizabeth Cooke's marriage is recorded in the register of the twon of Plymouth, Mass. Elizabeth died Dec 6, 1715 in Tiverton, R.I. She was the daughter of John and Sarah (Warren) Cooke. John came with his father, Francis Cooke, to Plymouth in the Mayflower in 1620. Sarah's father was also a Mayflower passenger, her mother came afterwards. (See Appendix p. 135 for John Cook and Sarah Warren.)" This last book contains a lot of history on the Wilcox family. It was "Compiled by Herbert A. Wilcox South Pasadena, Calif. 1943. Dale Miles got a copy from the FHC in Salt Lake City, UT.

From the last book: "It may be noted that Daniel (4-3), Samuel (503), Mary (6-3), and Stephen (8-3) were all residents for a time at least of Dartmouth MA. The names of Samuel and Stephen appear iin an early list of freemen of Dartmouth, as also doen that of John Earle, husbband of Mary(6-3). The Earles came from Portsmouth where the name of Ralph Earl, John's father, appears in a list of inhabitants in 1639 and again in 1655. John and Mary must have moved to Tiverton, as the will of Daniel (3-2) refers to them as living at Pocasset. Records of Pocasset Purchasers show that they owned land on the east side of Nannaquacket Pond. The birth record of their Children is found in Tiverton." RI
