The sources of his birth and death are somewhat unknown. The known documentation is as follows: 1. The death certificate of Robert Leroy Mills states that his father's name was "Robt". 2. The 1910 Census of Robert Leroy Mills states that his father was born in Tennessee. 3. The Mills family Bible from Aunt Eva Sparks (who got it from Chester Mills), states that R.H. Mills was born on March 25th, 1833. Immediately after this is the birthdate of his wife, Elisabeth E. Mills (22 Apr 1839), Robert L. Mills, Grant Mills, Anna Mills, etc. The same family Bible states that R.H. Mills died on 3 Mar 1901. Mrs. Betty Herrman, Kansas Genealogical Society, Inc., found the following United States Census in 1865 in the Township of Marmaton, P.O. Rockford, Bourbon County, Kansas: Bourbon County, Kansas: MILLS , Robert 32 M W Carpernter Tennessee E.E. 26 F W Housewife Missouri R.L. 3 M W Kansas G.G. 4mo M W Kansas HOFFINAN , Susan 16 F W Wisconsin? I was able to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate. It reads: State of Kansas) County of Bourbon) I do hereby certify that on the 16th day of June AD 1861 at the house of C.S. Clark in the State and County above, Robert H. Mills and Elisabeth E. Clark were by me joined together with their mutual consent in the bonds of wedlock. The sources of my information are as follows: 1. The death certificate of Robert Leroy Mills states that his mother was Elisabeth Clark. 2. The 1910 Census of Robert Leroy Mills states that his mother was born in Missouri. 3. The Mills family Bible (from Aunt Eva via Chester Mills) states that Elisabeth E. Mills was born 22 Apr 1839. Also, the family Bible (Aunt Eva's) refers to a Calvin S. Clark, who was born in January, 1808, in ____, Mass. This could be Elisabeth's father. The Bible states That Calvin Clark died 17 May 1881. On July 8, 1992, Mrs. Betty Herrman, Kansas Genealogical Society, Inc., P.O. Box 103, Dodge City, Kansas, 67801 wrote me a letter. She told me that "The Old Fort Genealogical Society of Southeast Kansas pubishes a quarterly which was not indexed in its earlier years, but we found a marriage record: Robert H. Mills & Elisabeth E. Clark were married in Bourbon Co 16 June 1861". Mrs. Herrman also found the 1860 Bourbon Co, Ks, Marmathon Post Office Census, which gave the following information: CLARK, Calvin S. 50 M W Farmer Mass? Alzonia (?) 26 F W Housewife Ohio Elizabeth E. 21 F W Missouri LeRoy 19 M W " Juliett 15 F W " Nancy A. 11 F W " Malissa 6 F W " Climona 4 F W " Mrs. Hermann stated that she did not know hat tho think about the 26 year old housewife, Alzonia. She thought that Calvin's wife must have died and he needed someone to care for the children. She searched but could not find any marriage records in Bourbon County. She stated that perhaps Clark's wife died before he moved to Kansas.
1. Was a christian minister. He baptized Opal Mills when she was a child. 2. I have obtained a copy of his marriage certificate. He was married on February 7, 1882 to Scynthe A. Moore. The marriage was attended by the mother of Robert Leroy Mills, Elisabeth E. Mills, who gave her consent. 3. I have a typed copy of the newspaper article that explains that Robert Leroy Mills was buried in the Miami cemetery. 4. On June 25, 1992 I received a copy of his death certificate. His father was "Robt Mills" and his mother was "Elisabeth Clark". The death information was given by S.A. Mills. His occupation was that of a "Mill Man". The death certificate confirms the date of his birth as January 25, 1862. 5. I performed his endowment on 7 Nov 1995. Per Aunt Eva and Grandma Mills (Opal E.), he wrote letters to his son, William Grant, after William Grant joined the Army.
