Lewis (Louis) Jackson SALMON
NOTES: 10 May 2000 - Newspaper clipping I found in Bill Packer's genealogy book. Body Of Aged Woman Cremated Near Here.. Early Morning Blaze West Of Town Fatal To Mrs Rosie Taylor.. Mrs Rosie Taylor, 86-years-old, widow, was burned to death when fire at about 5 o'clock Monday morning destroyed the cabin in which she was living, just off Highway 68, two miles west of town in a wooded section, and approximately 100 yards north of what is known as the Cozy Cabin, formerly a road house, but now occupied as a residence by Forest Stokes, grandson of the dead woman, and Mrs Stokes. Mrs Taylor had moved into the cabin only a week ago, was rather feeble, and Mrs Stokes had been preparing and carrying her meals to her. She was getting the aged woman's breakfast ready early Monday morning when she and her husband noticed the smoke from the fire and they immediately rushed to the scene, but the flames had gained such headway when they reached the spot that nothing whatever could be done toward rescuing Mrs Taylor. Coroner H.D. Haley, who investigated, said that hardly any of the body of Mrs Taylor could be found, and these fragments of bones were picked up near a coal stove. It is therefore thought that Mrs Taylor had attempted to start a fire because of the early morning chill and her clothing became ignited. Mrs Taylor was the widow of the late S.L.Taylor. Two children by a former marriage, Mrs Paschal Stokes and W.H. Salmon, both of this county, survive her. She had been a life-long member of the Methodist Church. The remains were taken to Russellville Tuesday morning for burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dr. A.J. Dickinson conducting services at the grave.
