NOTE: Louisa Jane James was born in a covered wagon somewhere in the Rocky Mountains when her parents were crossing the mountains from California on their way to Nevada. She was born in the dead of winter. She went through the Indian outbreak of 1876 when the Indians in the northern part of the country went on the war path. Living on a ranch near Whiterock, she was in the midst of the war. After the Indians visited her cabin and demanded food, she took her family of small children and fled to the town of Corneropia with the other white settlers until the outbreak was settled. Her parents first settled in Carson Valley in the western part of the state, where she spent her girlhood days and where she was married when only 16 years old to Jesse Logan Winter.
He married Louisa Jane James 4 Jul 1868 at Jack's Valley, Ormsby, Nevada . Louisa Jane James was born at Sierra Nevada Mountains, California 4 Jan 1852 daughter of John James and Elizabeth Jones .
