BIOGRAPHY: Helen was widowed and lived at 22 Phillips St Bainsford,Falkirk.
She had no children and raised her nephews Francis Cowan and his half brother Alex.Her brother William,unmarried,her father James,also lived with her.

BIRTH: Old Shirra family bible shows birthdate as 6 Jul 1859 whereas records show 13 Jul 1859 which possibly is the christening date. The bible lists her as Maggie.
The 1881 Census shows a Maggie Shirra,unmarried, age 21, living with the James Liddell, wife Mary and 3 sons and 2 daughters, family in Falkirk as a servant.

DEATH: Name listed as Margaret Roberta  Shirra, sixth daughter of James Shirra and the wife of Edward Craig in her 48th year, in the Falkirk Herald Death Notice of 2 Feb 1907.

She married David Grey. In addition to the children listed, there were also three children who died at birthor soon after all boys names Willie (William).

Francis Cowan Shirra,her nephew,states that she moved to Toronto, Ontario,Canada.The 1881 Census shows her, as Mrs Grey, age 19, living with her parents at 107 Bainsford, Falkirk, Scotland.
A great granddaughter of Jane Shirra is Mrs John (Linda) Madower of Winnipeg, Canada whose e mail address is madower@mts.net (Dec 2002).John Madower found the death records of Jane and David in the Ontario Provincial Archives, Toronto. Jane Gray is listed as MS935 Reel 332 Record 2194 and David as MS935 Reel 239 Record 003501. They are buried in St. John's Cemetery,256 Kingston Rd.,Toronto.

He was a Gratefitter at the Grahamstown Ironworks but earlier was a soldier in the 42nd Black Watch Regiment and fought in the Egyptian and Sudan Campaigns under General Kitchiner at Khartoum and Tel El Kaber,Sudan in 1882 when he was 17.

DEATH: Jane McIvor Shirra has the date of death as 18 Nov 1956 and his plaque at the Mount Thompson Crematorium states that he died 17 Nov 1956.
