Johannes Berger and Elizabeth Paulus arrived in Australia on 30 Nov 1863 on the ship "San Francisco" at Brisbane. Johann Peter,the eldest son was two years old when they landed. He was born 9 Nov 1861 at Viermunden,Frankenberg,Prussia and became a naturalized Australian citizen on 7 Feb 1905 at Glen Innes. They soon moved to Deepwater, NSW, 26 miles north of Glen Innes where Mary was born on 1 Dec 1864. They then moved to the small village of Yarrowford where Anna Elizabeth was born on 2 Aug 1867 and Louisa on 20 Apr 1869. After a few years,they moved to Glen Innes where the remainder of the family was born. He was a bootmaker. All the five boys were miners in their young days working on the Mann River ,east of Glen Innes. Bernhard was a tin buyer.
Viermunden is now (2000) a part of the city of Frankenberg.
