                       James Porter Dewitte enlisted on Aug.23,1862 in the 2nd Iowa Independent Battery of volunteers and light artillary(union army). He was 5 feet 4 in. tall with brown hair and grey eyes.  He was discharged Aug. 7 1865 at Danenpark Iowa at the age of 26 years.
