NAME: Andre FONDE or FONDI BIRTH: Birthplace also listed as France or Italy. Andre Fondi should be noted for several things. He changed the spelling on the Fondi name to Fonde. His family originated in Northern Italy, Province of Lombardy. They had blonde hair and differed greatly from the Southern Italian. According to family tradition, an ancestor in Lombardy had to flee for his life after some political entanglement. He took refuge in France and became a public scrivener, writing in several languages and in beautiful script. Later he came to America, landing in New Orleans where husband and wife are buried together having died on the same day at an advanced age. Several letters are in the family file expressing his views and affections towards his wife, who was in New Orleans, while he was in France. A footnote: (1) On the coast of France is a town called Fondi or Fonde; (2) The data gathered here should be credited to Elizabeth Fonde of Mobile, Alabama. (Notes by Melvin Scott Jr.)
