                   NOTE:  Joseph joined Staunton Baptist Church of Anthony's Ford Road.  He was appointed church treasurerer in 1817 and was ordained a Baptist minister in March 1819 and served as pastor, 1818-1822.  In 1823 he was appointed a member of a presbyterian of Goose Creek Baptist to church to examine the call and qualifications of Abner Anthony and if qualified to ordain him to the ministry.

He was discharged February 18, 1815 at Norfolk, Virginia after serving a six months tour of duty at Camp Carter under command of General John H. Cocke.
