Joseph BURROUGHS
NOTE: Joseph joined Staunton Baptist Church of Anthony's Ford Road. He was appointed church treasurerer in 1817 and was ordained a Baptist minister in March 1819 and served as pastor, 1818-1822. In 1823 he was appointed a member of a presbyterian of Goose Creek Baptist to church to examine the call and qualifications of Abner Anthony and if qualified to ordain him to the ministry.
NOTE: John served in Sales Battalion, 61st Regiment, Virginia Militia, War of 1812.
NOTE: James Burroughs, son of Joseph and Mary Pierce Burroughs, enlisted in the Virginia Militia at Amherst C.H. September 9, 1814 just before his twentieht birthday. he was a private in Captain Cornelius Sales' Company, 8th Regiment, 4th Brigade, Virginia Militia. He was discharged February 18, 1815 at Norfolk, Virginia after serving a six months tour of duty at Camp Carter under command of General John H. Cocke.
NOTE: Peter served in the Virginia Milita in the War of 1812.
NOTE: Thomas was a private, 8th Regiment, Coleman's Virginia Militia and private (promoted sergeant) 36th Regiment Renno's Virginia Militia, War of 1812.
He married Mary Pierce Abt 1785 at St. Mary's, Maryland . Mary Pierce was born at St. Mary's, Maryland 22 Apr 1763 .
