[Washington Co, IA 1900][p. 10]WILLIAM STEWARTMarried Miss Kile of Hampshire County, Va., Oct. 11, 1814, a sister to Frances Kile Stewart. Returned to Kentucky shortly after marriage. One son was born to them, named George Washington.After this child was several months old, the parents took a trip to New Orleans, to see the city. William and wife both took cholera and died there. This child was sent back to William Stage, his uncle, Stages wife being a Kile, an aunt to the child. Stage was then living in Illinois.Nothing more was heard of this child until June, 1853, when he came to my house (John Gilpin Stewart) and made himself and business known. He was looking for his interest in his mothers estate in the Kile farm in Virginia. He established his claim and sold it to George Perry, the owner of the farm, for one hundred dollars, and then returned to Illinois. He afterwards visited the friends in this town (Washington, Iowa.).
