Notes:
Henry Fonde in his late teens, healthy but broke, went West to Kansas, which was the last stop for the railroad at that time. There he met Buffalo Bill, William Cody, who was very impressive. So much so, he sent a sketch home to the family.
Later he became active in land development for the Mobile & Ohio Railroad and became President of the railroad. In later years, he became a general agent for the Southern Railroad and relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee. This was a very difficult move. He was well received by this new community and eventually died there. Before leaving Mobile, he was instrumental in the creation/securing a grain elevator.
