Robert CHRISTIAN

    Source:  IGI says Robert Christian (48 rin) married Lucy Ann Humphries on 4 Jan 1842 and Married Mary Gilkeson on 16 Sep 1840.  However in my (Glenn H. Thomas) notes received from Lula Arnetta Christian (Thomas), my grandmother, and Robert Christian's grandaughter, I find Lucy noted as the first wife of Robert and no children mentioned.  But Mary Gilkeson is noted as Robert's second wife and they had two boys, John David Christian and Gilbert Moffat Christian.  Therefore I have taken the liberty of exchanging the marriange dates of the two wives based on Lula Arnetta Christian's documents.

    Flash: New data (as of 1991) found in U.S. Census records indicate there are two Robert Christians, birth dates very close. One who md Lucy Humphries and one who married Mary M. Gilkerson.  The IGI could be in error? From the Census of 1850, 1860 and 1880 we can follow one family (Robt Christian/Mary Gilkeson) with their children growing older 10 years at a time, while during the same time we can also follow another family (Robt Christian/Lucy A.Humphries) with another different set of children growing older 10 years at a time.  This means the IGI is wrong and there are two Robert Christians each of whom md one of the two women mentioned above.  Only one is the son of John Christian/Delinda Wallace.   From another researcher, a Mrs. Catherine Hesler, 8505 Woodfield Crossing Blvd., Indianapolis, Ind. 46240,  I received a family group sheet of John Christian/Delinda Wallace, and she shows only one Robert Christian in that family and he is married to Lucy Ann Humpheries- no second wife mentioned.  I think her data is valid as her grandfather is Franklin Adam Christian, 8th child of John Christian/Delinda Wallace.  She states that she knew her grandfather well and from him she probably received all the birthdates, places etc., of his brothers and sisters, which clears up our problem.  Namely, that the only Robt Christian in her grandfather's siblings was the one who married Lucy Ann Humphries.

MISC:
    No birth place is given but Lula Arnetta Christian's records state that a Robert Christian lived in Terre Haute, Indiana for a good part of his adult lif
