Balgas BUCHER

                   The youngest brother arrived in Baltimore MD on the 'Ann Galley' on sept 27, 1746 He is listed on the ships log as Johan Baltes Butzer.
   From the area near Munster, Germany in coming to America and believed to have been through the New York port of entry in the 1740s was John Bucher who settled in Lancaster County, Pa. in 1747. -- excerpt from "My Often Misspelled Name is Booher" by Allen G. Booher The Original Family "A certain native German, presumably (John) ? Bucher migrated to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1747 to escape German military service this being when George Washington was a mere lad of fifteen years. He married there but his wife's family name is unknown. His two sons, Martin and John, were born there where they grew to manhood and married. Nothing has been learned of their wives families. They later settled in Wythe County, Virginia and other localities where their large families ranged over a vastly extended territory. The name BUCHER, confusing to court authorities and its records had already been changed to BOOHER. There is but little known of the brother Martin except that he had a large family and one of his sons, John married his cousin Mary (Polly) Booher, daughter of his Uncle John, as recorded herein. The brother John lived in Pennsylvania and Virginia, was twice married, first to Margaret Etener and then Rhoda Ann ******, last name not known.                    THE BOOHER FAMILY: Peter Booher Sr. and a Mr. Keisling came to Overton Co.TN. in 1800. Overton Co then comprised the counties of Pickett and Fentress Co. He received a land grant from the Govt. for having served in the Civil War.  He had been married before coming to this area. He settled on 1000 acres near Wirmingham and Bethsaida, TN. He farmed and worked in the lumber business. Peter Jr. used to tell that he was Scotch Irish and his father came from Virginia, yet others have told that the Booher's were Dutch German,...and originally settled in Pennsylvania before going to Virgina, then through the Cumberland Gap to Tennessee. As each  child married, they were parceled out 100 acres of rich timberland with which to farm and make their living. Peter Jr. built a large house where he brought his bride Aggie Beaty. He owned a sawmill and worked in the timber business while doing farming on a small scale. Willard was the only child to reach adulthood. He was a scholar and attended Alpine Institute at Alpine, TN.. and later took courses to prepare for the teaching position.He taught in Bethsaida, TN. enjoyed hunting, trapping and did some farm work, but died at a young age from tuberculosis. His wife died of the same disease 20 years later. Willard and Mae had three children: Lurine, the oldest graduated from Berea Collegeand taught Home Economics and was a Consulting Dietitian. Tonita Booher graduated from Berea College in Religion and was a Religious Education Director and is now in Real Estate in Florida. Artice Booher graduated from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute and is a Soil Conservation Director in Tennessee. Lurine Booher Little  has four children: Dr Larry John Little is a Dermatologist in Columbus, OH. Steve Lee Little is a Policeman in Lincoln Nebraska. James David Little works for UPS in Omaha NE. and Linda Kaye Little is a Juniou at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln NE. Tonita Booher's family consists of two daughters: Toni Lee teaches Drama in Jacksonville, FL. Augusta Ann is in Criminal Justice in Miami, FL. Artice Booher's family consists of Deborah Booher, in Auburn AL. graduate and married to a Chemical Engineer and lives in New Jersey. Randy Booher is an Architect in Annison Alabama. ................................................................................................... There is a Booher Cemetery on the old homesite in Overton Co. TN. about half-waybetween Wirmingham and Bethsaida where Peter Sr. and his second wife and many of their ancestors are buried.
