Notes:
At the time the southern states seceded from the Union and was was declared, Lafe Warmoth enlisted in the Confederate Army. Nancy and the children were left on the homestead with an old Negro who helped put in the crops only to see them ripen and be confiscated by the soldiers. What wasn't taken was destroyed by wandering bands of soldiers known as "bushwackers" who belonged to neither army. All or the stock was taken, but one horse broke loose and returned home. Just before the Battle of Lexington, Lafe Warmoth was shot by a Union sniper and taken to a hospital where his right arm was amputated at the shoulder. Nancy, her baby daughter, and her brother-in-law went in a small buggy and brought her husband home.
