Charles G. REINHARDT
Reinhardt was later changed to Rein when the family moved to Tyler Minnesota where they ran the Rein Hotel. Grandson Dick Rein lives in St. George, Utah (435) 680-2609, 2947 Bloomingon Drive, W. St. George 84790. Many of these notes are from a phone conversation with him 11-18-97. Dick says Reinhardts were from a village near Berlin near Zdansk (?) Auntie Rein had great energy. She was very small with snow white hair and light blue eyes. She was always very active. Just before her death at the age of 84 she ws out cultivating he garden with a little plow. She was famous for her sugar beans--white navy beans cooked with ham and sugar. The recipe has been lost. The old road to their farm in Sherwood, Oregon, was named Rein Road, which the locals call "Rain Road".
This woman was affectionately known as Auntie Rein. She was small and very white haired with sky-blue eyes, much like my own grandmother who was named for her. She and her husband had the Rein Hotel in Tyler where grandmother worked cooking as a young woman. It is believed it is here they changed their name from Reinhardt to Rein. They moved to Sheridan, Oregon on a farm--the greenest most picturesque spot--and I remember staying there and eating with them. It was a delightful place to a young girl. My father loved the Reins and their son Charlie, and often raved about Auntie Rein's white beans, sweet with sugar. Charlie was taller, but had the same white hair and sky blue eyes. I don't know that he ever married. Called Mary in 1870 census. Also Mary in 1920 census, birth at 1861. Since she died at the age of 84, she probably died in 1944 or 45. See description of her in notes about her husband Charles. George Sommerlade (nephew) said she was born 25 July 1861 in Woxfelde, Mork (or Mark) Brandenberrg
This is a duplicate and I can't figure out how to eliminate her. I am guessing Rose was born in 1879, or the last date listed.
It is believed that the first four children of Maria Hagedorn and Charles Reinhardt (later Rein) died of diphtheria. We are assuming they were born one a year and that the first were born in Potsdam, the latter in Western Minnesota. We do not know. This little girl was named Maria or Mary it is thought.
Last son of Charles and Mary Rein (Reinhardt), a policeman, married Katherine Patricia (Pat) Steward . Her mother was a Slagle and father was a Maier--Brewing Company. They had twin boys who died. Son Richard born 3-16-27 in Los Angeles, California. He married Peggy Jane Adams of 6-28-52 in Fullerton, California. He is the only living family member carrying the Rein name. His children are: Ardelle: m. Carl Halverson, Kingston, Washington Dean Douglas: St. George, Utah Leticia Ann: m. Leo Pledger, Apple Valley, Utah
He married Maria Hagedorn . Maria Hagedorn was born at Voxfelde, Brandenburg, Prussia 25 Jul 1861 daughter of Wilhelm Friederick Gottfried Hagedorn and Maria Wilhelmine Lutz .
