Joseph Thomas GOODMAN

                   Joseph E. Goodman was ordained a seventy by Thomas E. McKay 10 January 1943 and a High Priest by     .  He was married to Rosa Ellen Naegle 15 July 1922 of Elfrida, Arizona  in St. David by Bishop William G. Goodman after whisking Rosa off in his open car and taking her to his uncle (?) to be married.  She was only 19 and he 25 amd definitely the moving force.  They were later sealed in the St. George temple 31 Jan 1923.    He had served in the Southern States Mission and later as a home missionary in the Calif. Mission in St. David and in the Maricopa Stake Mission 15 Jan 1950 for many years.  He was fearless in defending the faith and in preaching to his friends, many of whom joined the church because of him.   He was ordained bishop of the Mesa First Ward by Spencer W. Kimball 14 Sept. 1960.   After that he served as a Patriarch for many years.   During his life he spent coutless hours in the Mesa Temple performing hundreds of endowments.   Rosa  was  ill for the last years of her life and after her death, he would spend all day in the temple sually doing four sessions a day for five days of the week.kj   These notes do not tell the story of a man totally dedicated to the Lord.   He jumped from one job to another, never becoming wealthy, but raised an honorable family of seven children and always served the Lord.  He was colorful  to say the least and did what most men only dreamed of doing as a cowboy and teamster.
