John STOCK
A FGS found in file provides sealing date to Susan Mary Thompson; 8 Jan 1905, which was done as described below after John Stock's death. The file also gives DOB of Mary as 19 May 1824, Ramsgate, Kent, England. (comment by FJR Oct 18, 2002) NOTE: Ord work has been done several times. 1993: FGS (Ephraim Stock's Gen Book) found this note: Susan Mary Thompson was sealed to John Stock at the instance of J. W. Edwin Stock, Jun. 8, 1905- Louisa E. Stock, proxy (record of John Wm Edwin Stock). Birth Place: Recorded differently on some FGS. Such as: Cape of Good Hope; Bathurst, Cape Colony; Near Grahamstown, Cape Colony all in South Africa. Bathurst is near Grahamstown and both are in the Cape Colony province of South Africa. ** Marriage Date: TIB file and as a result some FGS record John Stock and Jane Adams marriage date as occuring in 1842. This is in error. The Adams family left England and while on the ocean to South Africa Jane had a baby (illegitemate- it is reported that she had been engaged to a Mr. Dewey/ Newey). This child, Mary Ann was born 27 Sep 1842. It is therefore impossible for Jane and John to have been married in Feb 1842. [A note found in J-Stock file gave Marriage date as March 4, 1844 with a note to check- no resolution indicated.][Annie Jane Cottle Stock's Journal- has marriage: 13 Feb 1944. [Mary Ann is regarded by all to be part of John Stock/Jane Adams family and she is shown as the first child on many FGS; however, in this record she is shown on a seperate FGS with her mother - technically this is the correct way to show Mary Ann. Mary Ann is sealed to John Stock and Jane.] 14 Feb 1855, Baptized by Leonard P. Smith (South Africa). 14 Feb 1855, Confirmed by Leonard P. NOTE: Jun 1994 - ck'd record with Ancestral File- Birth date in error: 1862. Baptized by Wm. Budge. **Died of cancer of stomach at Salt Lake City. Annie says on 13 Nov 1918.
NOTE: Jun 1994 - ck'd record with Ancestral File- ok. There is confusion in the family as to the order of the given names. IGI has Francis Mary as well as the John Stock Family record book. FGS submitted by family members have the names reversed. I believe IGI and thefamily record book are correct. Baptized by Wm. Budge.
NOTE: Up to the year 1903 it was common practice to be sealed before being endowed Based on this IGI has wrong date (typing error?). Mrs. Jane Ann Ward had FGS marked with source information-reflected on Sourceinfo above. Jun 1994- ck'd with Ancestral File. Changed this record to comply with AF record: End date and picked up SS date. AF dates make sense. Ordained Elder by James H. Hart.
NOTE: Jun 1994- ck'd with Ancestral File- ok. Died of cancer. **PROBLEM: Death date recorded on 4 FGS in file as: 11 Jun 1939.
NOTE: Jun 1994- ck'd Ancestral File- ok
**NOTE: Jun 1994- ck'd with Ancestral File: Following differences: Death: 30 vs 31 Mar 1975 (4 FGS in family file have 30 Mar.) Annie J Stock records death in her journal as: 3 Apr 1935. Name of spouse: Charlotte Croft vs Lottie C. Appears Lottie is nick name for Charlotte and I believe that is what she was called.
NOTE: Ancestral file had different dates for DOB. Reverified DOB from Fish Haven Ward records, F 0007,169. Dates herein are correct. Jun 1994.
