Notes:
Records indicate that Henry Bowser emigrated to America about 1806. Hewas naturalized 14 April 1816. His age was listed as 35, and he was saidto have been from the Canton of Basel, Switzerland and immigrated viaHamburg, Germany.

There may be more than one Henry Bowser, because another man of that name was listed as being naturalized 3 Jan 1798. He also was from Switzerland. This Henry Bowser, whom the family researchers call "Hagerstown Hank"died in 1807. He was buried in Zion Evangelical Church cemetery inHagerstown. I will include information about him in this account so thatothers will not be confused with the two Henry Bowsers. Hagerstown Hankwas Catholic, and wealthy holding land and slaves. When he died, his wifeinherited his land along with his sons. Hagerstown Hank arrived in town, and he was the son of JOHANNES Bowser, who came over with the earlyfamily of immigrants whose father was Matthias Bowser. THERE IS NO KNOWNRELATIONSHIP between our Henry and Hagerstown Hank. Several familieshave paid researchers to find out who OUR HENRY's family was. They havelooked in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and somewhat in Switzerland, but noinformation has come forth at this time.

Information on the Internet provided by William L. Devo indicated Henrywas naturalized in Washington Co., Maryland in 1821. Mr. Devo is adescendent of Henry through daughter Caroline Bowser. HE indicated thathe has pictures of the family, which I will request.

Additional research through wills in Washington County indicates thatHenry Bowser arrives from Switzerland about 1806 (with a wife and firstchild, Jacob that same year). He has another child in 1815, Barbara, andothers. He marries Christiana in 1820. Henry had 9 children accordingto his will.

Basel, the Canton in Switzerland where Henry Bowser came from is aboutone mile from alsace Loraine and about 1/4 mile from Germany, in fasctWurtemberg, where the Palatine Germans came from. Both Henrys were fromthis area. Our Henry was naturalized in 1821 according to court recordsin Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland. Henry's first wife died six monthsbefore he married Christiana. Her husband John had died earlier.
