Abel FINDLEY, , SR.
Abel Findley came to Brownstown, Indiana befoe 1810. He was elected tothe office of Judge of the Probate Court for Jackson County andcommissioned on August 29, 1829. He took his oath of ofiicw on October 1,1829. Abel was among the first settlers in Brownstown along with Jame Mitchelland John McCormick. They settled there before 1825. Land and PropertyDeeds for Jackson County: FHL 1314755 P. 81; 1 Sep 1818. Deed from Abel Finley and Rebecca to Samuel Whedon, 1 Sep 1818, sold landto Samuel Whedon for $250 in the county of Jackson. Other transactionsare in the records for Jackson County. Abel and his wife Rebecca had 17 children. Abel helped his parents movefrom Pennsylvania down the Ohio River but he did not move his familyuntil 1808. They settled in Jackson County, Indiana around 1812.
